Department of Inspection & Legal Services

The Department of Inspection and Legal services is responsible for legal advisory services, inspection, investigations, detentions, prosecution, removal of undesirable immigrants from Uganda and processing appeals.

  1. Inspections and Enforcement
    1. All Foreign nationals must move with a copy of their Passport and valid Immigration status.
    2. All dependants of foreign nationals must apply for the appropriate Immigration facilities.
    3. Foreign Nationals found to be working, staying or whose entry into the Country is unlawful may be deported, removed on organised departure and prosecuted.
    4. Foreign Nationals found to be working, staying or whose entry into the Country is unlawful may be surcharged.
  2. Issuing and processing Immigration Bond
    1. Immigration Bond may be given to suspects and it's FREE.
  3. Prosecution of Immigration Offenders
    1. All Foreign Nationals found to be working, staying or whose entry into the Country is unlawful may be prosecuted accordingly.
    2. Company Directors employing foreign nationals without valid facilities shall be prosecuted.
  4. Carrying out Removals
    1. Through Organized Departures
    2. Effecting Deportation orders.
  5. Detention Services
    1. Foreign Nationals working, staying or whose entry into the Country is unlawful may be detained in the Custody Center pending prosecution or removal from the Country.
  6. Ensuring employers furnish returns
    1. Every employer shall furnish a return of all the non-citizens employed by him or her, to the Director, as required, every six months.
    2. Every hotel or lodge manager shall furnish a daily return to the Immigration Officer of the area, of all non-citizens accommodated by him or her.
    3. Any person whether a citizen or not who hosts any alien shall report the presence of that person to the nearest immigration office.

    1. To offer legal advisory services to the Directorate and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
